Last week Chris and I went to the design center to choose materials and colors for the new house. It was a fun experience, and not as stressful as I thought it could turn out to be. It was actually rather easy for us to make selections, since we had some initial ideas in mind before we went. We already knew we wanted to do the entire house with a clean colors- mostly whites + grays.
The design center was basically a home that was customized and filled with different areas (rooms) for each category of selections. The living room was filled with appliances, one room was for lighting fixtures while another had exterior materials and samples. The largest room in the design center contained cabinet, wood flooring, tile, and carpet samples. Here are some photos from our trip:
This was a difficult photo to snap, since we kept moving materials and samples around. This photo shows our final selections for tile, hardwood flooring, carpet (which we will be replacing asap), and granite for our kitchen and bathroom countertops. Here’s a close up of the beautiful chestnut hand scraped wood we chose for the foyer and living room:
Another shot of the tile and wood we selected
These were the tile selections for our kitchen backsplash, where the larger tiles will meet on a diagonal. We chose Servolo for the accent tile and I absolutely adore the shimmery metals in it!
The granite we chose has many different colors in it, yet it’s still quite neutral. It has grays, tans, whites, blacks, and a pretty plum color :)
This is the wall color we chose (Passive Gray) , and I am just in love with it <3 The cabinets and woodwork will be a soft white throughout the house.
Our largest upgrade to the house is replacing the carpeted stairs with real hardwood stairs, but I think it makes such a huge difference. We’re getting excited and looking forward to what’s next- our Pre Construction meeting. Stay tuned!
