With the popularity of Instagram continuously on the rise, there are many different ways to integrate your instagram feed onto your WordPress website or blog. Today I’m going to show you how I do it, using a free service called LightWidget. My favorite thing about LightWidget is that there are no ads, and when you click on one of the instagram photos, it takes you directly to your instagram page- not a 3rd party website.
LightWidget is a responsive widget to display your instagrams in any widget area on your website. Yes, responsive! You may have used a plugin in the past that displayed them nicely on desktops, but not so great on mobile phones or tablets. Well, look no further- LightWidget looks great on all devices.
To get started, you’ll need to hop on over to LightWidget.com and enter in your instagram username on the top right. (Alternatively, you can enter in a specific hashtag instead of a username.) See below:
Now you can configure the options to display your intagram feed in various ways. You can choose from a grid layout, slideshow, or column layout (similar to Pinterest). Here are examples of each:
You can also adjust other little things like the number of photos being displayed and padding. Once you have decided on the type of widget you want, click the ‘Get Code!’ button. You will now see a code displayed in the light gray box:
Copy this code, then head over to your WordPress widgets screen. Open up the widget area you would like to display it in and drag over a new text widget box. Paste the code, and hit save!
Take a look at your website or blog and you should now see your instagram feed! The free version of LightWidget only updates your feed once a day, so keep this in mind. If you want to upgrade to the Pro version for $10, the feed would get more frequent updates.
