Dax is almost 2 (eeek!) and I finally took him to get his first real haircut. I know, I know- I’m a bit late on this, but I just couldn’t bear the thought of taking him someplace to watch him cry and throw a fit, and then walk out with a botch job. I love his strawberry blonde hair, and I think it looks cute long. So I was afraid of someone cutting it all off and doing a buzz cut, etc, etc. My friend Katie recommended I take him to a little children’s salon called Belles & Beaus, and promised that I would not be disappointed. Up until now, my aunt or mom has trimmed his ‘fuzzies’ while I struggle to hold him down and he was never exactly pleased. Neither were we lol. But at this point, his hair was out of control.
So my mom and I decided to take him to Belles & Beaus, and as soon as we walked in I knew that everything was going to be ok. There was a Thomas table in the waiting area, which he immediately ran to and began playing with. All of the seats were different- race cars, jeeps, firetrucks, barbie cars.. it was so cute! He chose to sit in the red race car, and the stylist asked me if I wanted him to have a sucker to distract him. I thought, hey maybe that will work, so let’s give it a whirl. It worked like a charm! There were also flat screen TVs in front of each station, and he sat contently and sucked his red sucker, and didn’t even pay any attention to what was going on. I was thinking ‘Hey, I don’t even get all of these luxuries at my salon!” hehe… Who says women don’t want to watch flat screens and eat candy while getting highlights and root touch ups? Maybe someone should run with this idea.. any takers?
His first official haircut took a total of 10 painless minutes! Amazing. They even gave us a ‘First Haircut Certificate’ with his name and the date. He was a sticky/hairy mess at the end, but it was worth it. Doesn’t it look cute?
