Yes, you heard me. Dax is getting a toy kitchen for Christmas from my parents. And I am pretty darn excited about it- I’m positive he will be too. Every time we go to a playdate, Dax either immediately goes to the toy cars/trucks/trains or the toy kitchens. My husband was a bit weary when I suggested it, and of course declared that it is a ‘Girl Toy’- but then I reminded him that he does 90% of the cooking! And I’ll be honest, I don’t know how much more Thomas the Train stuff I can take! (Dax got the train table and a LOT of trains for his bday, and will be getting the Roundhouse from us for Christmas. Shhh, don’t tell him =).
Anyhoo, I’m excited about the thought of him enjoying being in the kitchen one day. I want him to be able to cook a meal, and not just live on frozen pizzas and hot pockets (ew). It’s sort of the same mentality of having a girl and teaching her a few things about tools, etc. He loves to help out when we cook, and when I bake cupcakes he LOVES to crack the eggs. As soon as I even touch my mixer, he starts saying ‘eggs? eggs?’. The last playdate we went to, he kept putting golf balls in the toy microwave because I’m sure he associated them with eggs. It was so freakin’ cute.
I also love the fact that it’s retro and red! It will look absolutely adorable in his red/blue/gray robot room, although I did consider putting it in our kitchen so he can cook when we do. He’s been going through a ‘no-eating’ phase, so maybe this will get him more interested in eating again. And what woman doesn’t LOVE a man who can cook? <3 I think the appeal is really the opening and shutting slamming of the doors- and maybe this will keep him from doing that constantly in my kitchen!
So what do you think? Do you have or know of a toddler boy with a toy kitchen?
